About Above Category
In a lot of ways we’re just like any other local pro bike shop: We drink more coffee than is necessary (or healthy), know just a little too much about the weights of various wheels, think jokes about Claudio Chiappucci’s denim-look Lycra shorts are hilarious and, yes, we’re always on the lookout for creative ways to tell our significant other that a particular bike isn’t really ours……..”it’s a loaner sort of, I swear.”
But there are a whole lot of ways that Above Category is totally unique.
In fact, it feels like we’ve spent our entire lives just building to this point. Soaking up all we could about the history of the sport. Logging thousands and thousands of miles on dozens and dozens of bikes (”it’s a loaner sort of, I swear.”) to understand how the ride of one material differs from another and which builders make bikes for the way we like to ride. We’ve traveled to Italy just to eat in Dario’s favorite restaurant and been to Switzerland to talk about Lycra (not the denim look kind). We’ve learned how to wrench on every high-end component possible and have written heated emails over minor changes in design. We’ve come to be friends with hundreds, if not thousands of people that know the rhythm of a good, long ride and, like us, refuse to drink bad coffee. We’ve moved thousands of miles to be near what we think is the world’s best riding and we’ve passed on more lucrative careers for the sake of two wheels.
Like we said, it feels it's been building toward this point and, with our vision to be the best full service professional bike shop in the United States, we're dedicated to leveraging all our experience, dedication, passion, knowledge and connections in order to help our clients with whatever they need - bike, equipment, apparel, fit, service, etc. - to have an incredible time on a bike.
