Bike of the Week: A Prismatica Moisaic RT-1

Derek Yarra |

We've had no shortage of Mosaic builds around here, but with the craze for gravel still going strong, it's been a minute since we've taken an order for a road bike. Finally, we've got a new RT-1 built up, and boy was it worth the wait. While any RT-1 is a work of art, this one is truly special, having been adorned with Mosaic's incredibly limited edition Prismatica finish.

The Prismatica paint job is the first offering in Mosaic's Artist Series graphics, a very limited run of special paint designs, where their finish team (better known as Spectrum Paint and Powder Works) really flex their abilities and creativity. We were impressed by their press photos when they released the offering, but unboxing a bike here in our studio and seeing it in real life was really something else. The textures and details revealed through the windows of the bike's otherwise white finish are absolutely breathtaking.

As the Prismatica was designed in conjunction with Chris Kings release of their new Violet color option, there are subtle cues of the CK crown and infamous Killer Bee silhouettes sprinkled throughout the bike. It's probably better that we stop talking about it and let you scroll on to see for yourself.

As beautiful as the frameset is, it's not a bike without the rest of the build, so we'll dive in to that...

The cockpit starts with an Enve carbon stem and seatpost, both painted in the Prismatica finish. The handlebar of choice for the rider is a Zipp SL-70, a choice we often make on our personal builds. The bars are wrapped in black, tacky tape from Fizik. The saddle is also supplied by Fizik, in the shape of a Arione Versus Evo 00. In our opinion, one of the best looking units out there.

For the drivetrain, we landed on a Sram Red AXS kit. Ironically, we're sending this bike back out to Boulder, CO where the frame was crafted. One thing is for sure—the climbing, and descending for that matter, are no joke. Appropriate gearing and adequate braking are a must. 46/33t chainrings paired with the 10-33t cassette keeps the gear range covered. The AXS disc brakes have proven to supply plenty of power, especially with the 160mm rotors.

As we mentioned, the Prismatica was designed around the the Chris King Violet, so the R45 hubs should come as no surprise. We laced them to a set of Enve 4.5 AR rims. Is there ever a scenario where a set of deep section rims don't look amazing? Don't think so. While being the deepest in the Enve AR line up, the 4.5s are an impressively versatile pairing,  making them an excellent choice for Colorado's diverse terrain. Wrapping them up are a set of Schwalbe Pro One tires. Tubeless, 28c.

Digging into the finer details of the build, there are some nice surprises. Ceramicspeed bottom bracket and derailleur pulleys keep the drive train efficiency tip top. Time XPro pedals are always a unique touch. Something we always love to see, are our limited edition Above Category Silca titanium bottle cages.

That finishes off this incredible build. A premium titanium road bike, made that extra bit special with an incredibly stunning pain. This is the only Prismatica bike we'll see roll out of our shop and we're glad to have had the opportunity to build one up. As beautiful as it looks here in our studio, we can't wait to see how it looks with a proper coating of Colorado dirt.
