Bike of the Week: A Color Striped Titanium Prova Speciale

Derek Yarra |

An Australian frame, Canadian paint job, Italian drivetrain, German wheels, an American cockpit, Danish bearings... We covered the globe sourcing all the perfect pieces to bring this build to life and we're excited to share it in all of its collective beauty. Read on as we dive into the details of this color striped titanium Prova Speciale.

The Frame and Paint

This project was our first to form a union between two of our most beloved partners—Prova Cycles and the Vélocolour paint shop. A titanium Speciale, Prova's flagship road creation was the basis featuring all of its signature features. A beautifully machined head tube, 3D printed lugs and seat topper, and a custom wound carbon ISP. All precisely engineered to deliver one of the most thrilling and beautiful road platforms on the planet.

Once the frame was finished being built in Australia, it was sent off to Toronto for custom paint and finish. While we love the work of Prova's usual paint shop, it's always fun to mix things up. This rider has a thing for colorful, geometric paint jobs. Just take a look and his Baum we featured last year.  Once again, Vélocolour proved their mastery of intricate masking and color work, making this bike a worthy disc-brake addition to our rider's stable. A clean white base is the perfect canvas for the pops of color, while the windowed Prova logos reveal the bike titanium core.

The Cockpit

Steering control is handled by a pairing of an Enve classic road handlebar and stem. Custom painted to match the frame, and wrapped in delightfully comfortable Deda perforated tape. At the tail end, the 3D printed Prova seat topper holds up a Form Cycling Throne RS saddle.

The Drivetrain

The transmission and braking is all handled by a Campagnolo Super Record mechanical kit, easily one of the classiest groupsets out there. 170mm arms, 50-34t rings, and an 11-34t cassette give this bike the range to climb any summit in sight. And to keep it under control on the flip side, a 160/140 front and rear rotor pairing keep speed in check.

The Wheels

And what does this bike roll on? None other than a set of Lightweight Meilenstein Evo Schwarz Eddition wheels. Nothing matches the acceleration and lively feel of these iconic full carbon wheels, and with the Ceramicspeed bearings, the  roll incredibly smooth and fast.

The Evo edition means they're tubeless ready, so this bike takes full advantage of the Vittoria Corsa Control TLR benefits. These 700x30c tires, sealed up with a couple ounces of Orange Seals, really aid in making this an incredibly smooth ride.

The Finer Details

Rounding out the build are few of our favorite AC touches. As the Lightweight wheels come with Cermamicspeed bearings, we matched them with a T47 bottom bracket and derailleur pulley wheels. We shed some weight from the fork with an EE compression pug, and made sure it turns smooth for a lifetime with a King headset.

Many things came together to make this a truly one of a kind steed. The handcrafted paint, stunning and colorful paint, and premium build. Climbing, descending, and sprinting for the line, it's a bike can can do it all with equal parts speed and equal parts person style. To us, it's exactly what a custom bike should be.
